This counseling session for parents whose child has disclosed sexual abuse is specifically tailored to provide support and guidance during an incredibly difficult and sensitive time. These sessions focus on helping parents process their emotions, manage the intense feelings that may arise, and learn effective ways to support their child. Our therapists work with parents to navigate the complexities of life following the disclosure, addressing concerns such as how to communicate with the child, handle legal or medical processes, and cope with the emotional impact on the family. The goal is to empower parents to care for themselves, strengthen their ability to support their child, and foster healing in a safe and compassionate environment.

My pathway to becoming an emotional health practitioner has grown from my personal healing work into a passion to help others with their journeys. As a childhood trauma survivor, I struggled to find practitioners that really understood where I as coming from. My trauma stood in the way of my growth and healing, but I struggled to trust anyone with the private things I had protected so fiercely for so long. I believe that for many trauma survivors to feel safe, they need to know that they are working with someone who, “gets it.”

This lead me to The Gatehouse in Toronto, where I attended the Childhood Sexual Abuse Peer Support Programs, eventually becoming a facilitator. After travelling from my hometown of Georgetown into Toronto to do this work, I eventually decided to create a program closer to home. The Ironwood Project was born. Now in its seventh year, I am the Program Director and Lead Host for our Survivor Support Groups.

Through my work at Ironwood, I found my experience was helpful to others and I enjoy being able to offer my support. This sent me back to school to become an Emotional Health Practitioner. For many trauma survivors learning about our brains, how they are wired and their emotional connections, offers a freedom and path forward. Using Neural Network Therapy and my experience working with survivors for over a decade, I offer a unique perspective and provide my clients with skills and tools they can use to heal.
